Same volts, many more hours

This is the point most often missed about battery sizes. A C delivers exactly the same 1.5 volts as an AA or an AAA. Bigger does not mean more voltage and does not mean more power, it means more supply.

A device asking for C is therefore not asking because of the voltage but because of runtime, or the current it wants to draw continuously. An AA in an adapter sleeve fits mechanically, gives the same voltage, and is flat in a fraction of the time. On anything drawing hard, a converted cell also sags sooner.

What takes them

C is the size of larger torches, some dosing equipment and anything with a small motor. You meet it less often than AA in this range, but the devices that do ask for it have a reason.
