An inline carbon filter with a 200 mm collar, filled with Australian RC412 charcoal in a 38 mm bed. Rated to 770 CFM (1308 m³/h).
This size belongs to larger setups, where a filter is a serious purchase and you want as much out of it as possible. On one point this design is cleverer than it looks.
Reversible flanges, and the service life they buy
The aluminium flanges at both ends come off and can be swapped around. It looks like a mounting detail, but it is there to stretch the filter's life.
Air entering the filter does not arrive evenly. The carbon nearest the inlet does most of the work and saturates first, while the carbon at the far end is still largely untouched. Turn the filter around halfway through its life and the fresh side comes to the front, so you get to use the rest of the bed.
In practice you do it at a changeover: take the filter down, turn it round, hang it back up, and put a clean pre-filter around it. It costs you no warranty and about five minutes.
What it will not fix is a filter that is fully saturated. Reversing works while there is unused carbon left, so do it in good time rather than once the smell has already returned.
Build and use
The body is dual-sided mesh with a coating against rust, with aluminium flanges at both ends. At 508 mm long and eight kilos, hang it from two rope hangers rather than off the ducting.
The filter works as extraction or on the intake side, for instance when you want odour-free air brought into a space. A washable pre-filter cloth is included and keeps dust out of the carbon.

Frequently asked questions
When should I turn the filter around?
At a changeover, or as soon as it feels like the first half has done its work. Do not wait until the smell comes back.
Does this fit a 200 mm fan?
Yes. The CLOUDLINE Pro S8 and T8 deliver 1371 m³/h, so that sits just above what this filter takes; at a lower speed setting that is fine.
Can I hang it outside the tent?
Yes, provided it stays dry. Carbon and moisture do not mix, and the air outside a tent is often more humid than the air in it.
