AC Infinity Activated Carbon Refill Pack (3.6 kg)

A 3.6 kg refill pack of Australian RC412 charcoal in granular form, rated at 1200 IAV or higher. Intended for refillable carbon filters.

This is the smaller of the two refill packs. The question that matters with a refill is not what is in the bag, but how far it goes.

How many refills it holds

That depends on the size of your filter, and it does not scale linearly: a 150 mm filter needs roughly twice the carbon of a 100 mm one, because the body is both longer and wider.

3.6 kg fills a 150 mm filter at least once, and a 100 mm filter at least twice. For a 200 mm filter this pack is too small for a full fill; the 7.2 kg pack is meant for that.

So this size is the logical choice for a 100 mm refillable kit, where you get two fills out of it, or for a 150 mm kit if you would rather buy per refill than keep stock.

The granules are shaped to sit loose in the filter chamber without being compressed. Compressing is exactly what not to do: resistance rises and the air finds a few narrow paths through the carbon instead of passing evenly through all of it.

What else it can be used for

Granular activated carbon is not tied to grow filters. The same granules are used in ventilation systems, aquarium filters and pond filters. Do note these are separate applications: carbon that has worked in air does not go on to serve in an aquarium.

Does this fit every refillable filter?
It is intended for AC Infinity's refillable carbon filter kits. Granules usually fit other refillable filters too, but check the granule size.

Should I pack the carbon down when filling?
No. Loosely poured carbon filters better and adds less resistance.

What do I do with the old carbon?
It goes in general waste. Saturated carbon cannot be restored at home.
