AC Infinity Activated Carbon Refill Pack (7.2 kg)

A 7.2 kg refill pack of Australian RC412 charcoal in granular form, rated at 1200 IAV or higher. Fills a 200 mm filter at least once, a 150 mm at least twice and a 100 mm at least four times.

This is the bulk pack, and you usually buy it not because you need that much carbon right now but because you want to be covered for a while. That makes how you store it as important as what is in it.

Storing carbon so it still works when you need it

Activated carbon starts working the moment it meets air. It draws no distinction between the odours you want captured and whatever else is floating around your shed or cellar: moisture, solvents, exhaust fumes, the smell of paint.

An opened bag left standing for months is therefore partly occupied before any air from your grow space has passed it. Nothing about it looks different, and you only notice when a fill lasts less time than expected.

So keep the remainder airtight and dry. A bucket with a lid that clamps beats folding the bag shut, and dry matters as much as sealed: moisture occupies the same pores as odour. A cool spot without temperature swings is better than a loft that heats up in summer and cools at night, because that is where condensation forms.

If your next refill is a year away, consider the 3.6 kg pack instead of this one. Buying two small bags costs a little more, but fresh carbon used straight away outperforms a cheaper bag that has stood open for a year.

Frequently asked questions

Does carbon deteriorate in the bag?
Only if air can reach it. Stored airtight and dry it keeps; left open in a damp space it slowly becomes occupied.

Is this the same carbon as in your filters?
Yes, the same Australian RC412 at the same IAV rating.

Can I use it to fill a non-refillable filter?
Not without cutting it open, and it rarely seals properly afterwards. This pack is meant for refillable filters.
