AC Infinity Refillable Activated Carbon Filter Kit 100 mm

A refillable carbon filter kit with a 100 mm collar, rated to 357 m³/h. Supplied with a refill pack of Australian RC412 charcoal.

With an ordinary carbon filter you throw the whole body away once the carbon is spent: mesh, flanges and aluminium go out with the granules. This kit exists to break that cycle, so the question is when it pays for itself.

When refillable becomes the cheaper choice

The kit costs more than a standard filter of the same size, because you buy the housing once. Against that, a refill pack of charcoal costs considerably less than a complete new filter, since you are paying for the carbon alone.

The arithmetic follows from that. At the first replacement you are still behind; somewhere around the second refill you break even, and after that every refill is pure saving. Keep the same setup running for years and this is the cheapest route, with a stack of galvanised steel kept out of your waste.

When it does not pay: if you run one or two cycles and then stop, or if you expect to move up a collar size within the year. The housing is size-specific, so a 100 mm kit stays a 100 mm kit.

A refill pack is included from the start, which the manufacturer rates as equivalent to the contents of two standard filters. So you do not begin with an empty housing and do not have to order carbon straight away.

Build

The carbon is held in by aluminium flanges and a rubber gasket, and the housing is double-layer galvanised mesh with a sandblasted finish against rust. Two pre-filter cloths and hanging hardware are included. The design won an iF Design Award.
