AC Infinity Refillable Activated Carbon Filter Kit 150 mm

The 150 mm is the size most growers need, and the refillable version is the same filter with a lid that opens. How you refill it decides whether it performs as well as a factory-filled one.

Refilling without ruining the carbon

The main rule is counter-intuitive: do not compress it. The chamber on this design is deliberately roomier than strictly necessary so the granules can sit loose. Carbon that has been tamped down packs tighter, adds resistance and forces the air through the few channels left. Only that narrow path then filters, while the rest sits idle.

So fill gently, let the granules settle by tapping the body lightly, and top up until the chamber is full without pressing. Stand the filter upright while filling and the carbon distributes itself evenly.

Do it outdoors or over a sheet of plastic. Fresh carbon sheds dust, which is normal, and that dust is not something you want in your tent or your lungs. A dust mask and gloves are not excessive.

The old carbon comes out in one go by turning the filter over a bucket. Wash the pre-filter cloth immediately afterwards, because it is full of dust from the last cycle and would otherwise go straight back onto fresh carbon.

Why the housing is larger than a standard filter

This kit is physically bulkier than the standard filter of the same collar size, and that is not incidental: the roomier chamber is what makes refilling without compression possible. So expect it to take up a little more space above the canopy than the sealed model.
