AC Infinity Refillable Activated Carbon Filter Kit 200 mm

This is the largest refillable kit and it usually hangs in a room that can get humid. That is exactly the condition in which activated carbon does less than you would expect, and the manufacturer is unusually straight about it.

Humidity and carbon do not get along

AC Infinity publishes three thresholds of its own. Below 55% relative humidity the carbon filters as intended. Above 60% performance drops. Above 70% good filtration is not guaranteed.

The reason is that water and odour molecules compete for the same place. The pores in each granule have a limited surface, and water vapour occupies that surface just as readily as the molecules you want removed. At high humidity the carbon is partly taken up by something useless to you, and it saturates faster as well.

That explains something many growers run into: a filter that worked perfectly well starts letting odour through in the last weeks of flowering or during drying, precisely when humidity is highest and the smell is strongest. The filter is not broken, it is sitting in the wrong air.

What helps is addressing the humidity rather than the filter: a dehumidifier in the room, more ventilation during the dark period, or hanging the filter outside the tent if the air there is drier. That spares your carbon and extends its life, which on a refillable kit translates straight into fewer refills.

The largest size, and what you get back

Filled, this kit weighs around eighteen kilos, so plan for two solid hanging points. Against that, you buy the housing only once: at this size a complete filter is the most expensive in the range to replace, which makes it the size where refilling pays off soonest.

Frequently asked questions

My filter lets odour through while drying. Is it spent?
Possibly, but check your humidity first. Above 60% carbon does less, and during drying you are easily above that.

Does a dehumidifier really help my filter?
Yes. Drier air means the pores in the carbon stay available for odour rather than for water vapour.

Can I dry out damp carbon and reuse it?
Driving moisture out returns some performance, but it does not make saturated carbon new again. Refilling is the answer then.
