Two trays side by side, one controller

A standard seed tray is about 25.4 cm wide. This mat is 50.8 cm wide, which is exactly two of those trays next to each other, and at 52.7 cm it is precisely as deep as a tray is long. You can put two full trays on it without a corner falling outside the heat.

That is the trade against two smaller mats. Two mats give you two separate zones you can set independently, but also two plugs, two controllers and two cables that have to go somewhere. This one heats the same surface on a single setting, from a single socket.

So choose it when you have two trays running in the same stage. If you sow in waves and there is a tray nearly finished sitting beside fresh seed, two separate mats make more sense, because then you want two different temperatures.

What the controller does

You set a value and the controller holds it by interrupting the heating as soon as the sensor reaches your value. The display shows the reading and your setting side by side, in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Across the whole surface the heat comes from infrared film rather than a wire running through the mat in lines. At this size that matters more than it does on a small mat: the larger the surface, the more you would notice heat that only sits along the lines.

Storing and handling

The mat rolls up and goes into the nylon drawstring bag supplied. Always unroll it fully before switching it on and never let it lie across itself. Wiping it down is fine, since the seams and the cable entry are sealed to IP67, but submerging it is not, and neither is outdoor use.

Frequently asked questions

Do two trays really fit?
Yes, side by side. 50.8 cm is exactly twice the 25.4 cm of a standard tray, and the 52.7 cm on the other axis is the length of that same tray.

Can I run two zones separately?
Not on this mat. There is one sensor and one setting for the whole surface. If you want two temperatures next to each other, take two separate mats with a controller each.

How much power does it draw?
40 W at most, AC Infinity's own figure. That is double the small mats in the same series, which matches the doubled surface.

Can I run it half rolled up?
No. Unroll it flat before switching it on and never let one part lie over another.
