Small enclosed spaces need less than you think

A car, a caravan, a wardrobe, a storeroom, a changing room: these are where a concentrated oil takes effect fastest, and equally where it most often becomes too much.

The reason is simple. How much scent you need depends on the volume of air, and that is perhaps four cubic metres in a car against thirty or forty in a room. The same two puffs therefore give a multiple of the effect.

One short puff is usually enough in such a space. Do it with the door still open if you can, and close up afterwards.

There is also a limit to what scent solves. A closed space smells musty because too little air is being replaced; adding scent does not change that. Air the space first and spray afterwards, or you combine the two smells rather than replacing one.

In a car the same applies: spray into the air rather than onto the dashboard or upholstery, where concentrated oil can mark.
