Can-Fan RK 100 LS Inline Fan 270 m³/h

A 100 mm duct fan with a built-in four-speed switch: 170, 190, 210 or 270 m³/h, at 56 W.

The RK 100 LS is sold on its top speed. In a small space that is rarely the speed it ends up on, so the lowest figure is the one to look at.

Why speed 1 is the number that matters here

A 60 x 60 x 140 cm tent holds about half a cubic metre of air. Change that once a minute and you arrive at something like 30 m³/h. Even this fan's lowest speed, 170 m³/h, sits far above it.

In practice that means you will almost never run it beyond speed 1 or 2, and that is the point. On the lowest setting the motor turns more calmly, air moves more slowly through ducting and filter, and you barely hear it. Buy a fan that only just delivers enough flat out and you will hear it for the whole cycle.

So when choosing, do not ask whether the top end is high enough, ask whether the bottom end is low enough. If your space needs less than 170 m³/h, this fan is heavier than you need, and at night you are better off switching it off entirely than trying to get it below what it can do.

The switch

The speeds sit on a rotary knob on the fan itself. You turn it by hand to 1, 2, 3 or 4, and there is nothing further to set: no adjustable range, no intermediate steps, no wiring to a box on the wall.

That is why this version exists alongside the plain RK. You need no separate controller, and you may not fit one either. Can states this explicitly for the range.
