The RK 150 is the size most growing spaces end up at. It is also where most money gets misspent, and not on the fan itself but on the filter next to it.

Choose the filter for the fan, not for the ducting

Can names three filters for this model: the CAN-Lite 425S, the CAN-Lite 425 and the Inline 425. All three around 425 m³/h. What stands out is what is missing: the CAN-Lite 800, which does appear on the heavier models sharing the same 150 mm flange.

That is where the common mistake sits. Two fans with the same 150 mm collar can be far apart in what they move, and the filter belongs to the second figure rather than the first. A filter rated 800 m³/h on a fan that manages 470 is not extra insurance. You are buying carbon that never sees air, hanging needless weight on your structure, and asking the fan to pull through a deeper bed than it needs.

The other way round is worse. A filter that is too small for the fan lets air through the carbon too quickly and the odour simply passes, while everything looks right.

When the motor gets too hot

The motor carries a thermal switch that shuts the fan off once its working temperature climbs to a dangerous level. That is a last line of protection, not an operating feature, and in normal use it should never act.

If it does, treat it as a signal rather than a fault to be tuned out. The usual causes are a clogged carbon filter, a kinked duct, a covered intake, or a fan boxed into a warm, tight cupboard with no air passing the motor housing.
