The steel part of the Can-Original range begins with the 333 BFT. It is short and wide: 33 cm of build length on a 30 cm outer size, 11 kg in weight, with 6 kg of pelletised carbon in a 5 cm bed and a practical rate of 350 m³/h. Our version carries a 160 mm flange.

Six kilos of carbon against 350 m³/h

What decides how long an odour filter lasts is neither its length nor the weight of its housing, but how much carbon you get per unit of air. Carbon fills up. Every odour molecule that sticks occupies a site that is no longer available afterwards, and at some point no sites are left.

This filter carries 6 kg of carbon for 350 m³/h, roughly 17 grams per cubic metre per hour. That is why Can states a minimum of thirty months across the whole Original range against eighteen months for the lighter Can-Lite. What you buy here is not better filtration moment to moment, it is filtration that stops much later.

Why pellets rather than granules

The Original is filled with pressed carbon pellets of 3 and 4 mm, not irregular granules. Pellets all share one shape, so the air meets the same resistance throughout the bed and no channels form for air to shoot through unfiltered. That is exactly the difference from the Can-Lite, which uses granulated carbon and comes out lighter and cheaper for it.

Fan

Can names the Iso-Max 150 at 410 m³/h, the Iso-Max 160 at 430 and the Can-Fan RK 125 LS at 370 for this model. We carry all three. All three sit above the filter's 350, which is what it takes to reach 350 with a filter in the line.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know the carbon is spent?
By your nose, not by a counter. Once odour comes through while the fan runs normally, the bed is saturated and only replacement helps.

Can I put this filter on 150 mm ducting?
Our version has a 160 mm flange. With a good clamp, 150 mm attaches in practice, at the cost of a little pressure.

Why is it so short and still so heavy?
Because it is 30 cm wide. Across 33 cm of length it holds 6 kg of carbon, which a filter of the same capacity in a narrow body never manages.

Does it really last thirty months?
That is the minimum Can states for this range in normal use. In a damp or dusty room you will not reach it.
