Can-Lite 1000

The Can-Lite 1000 moves 1000 m³/h in practice and 1100 technically, from a steel body 50 cm long and 30 cm across. It holds 5.1 kg of carbon and the whole thing weighs 11 kg. That weight is the first thing to plan around with this filter.

Eleven kilos is a mounting decision

Up to and including the 800 you can hang a Can-Lite one-handed. From this model on you cannot. Eleven kilos on a tent frame is not a given: most poles are reckoned for a lamp and a fan, and adding a filter changes the sum. Three things are worth checking first.

• Hang the weight from two points. Two ratchets either side of the cylinder spread the load across two poles instead of one. A filter on a single point also works its way slowly out of true.
• Hang the filter, not the fan. It is tempting to hang the fan off the filter or the other way round. Neither carries the other: the duct clamp is an airtight joint, not a structural part. Hang them separately and connect them afterwards.
• Allow for more than eleven kilos. Carbon takes up moisture. A filter that has hung through a cycle in humid air weighs more than it did out of the box, and that is exactly when a mounting point gives way.

Where the weight comes from

Almost half is carbon: 5.1 kg of the 11. The rest is the steel body with its fixed flange and the multi-layer pre-filter sleeve. It is also why this filter is so much heavier than the 800 at 5 kg when the diameter is the same. Both have a 5 cm bed, but the 1000 is 50 cm long against 33, and that extra length is filled.

Connection and fan

The flange is fixed and supplied in 200 or 250 mm. Can puts the Max-Fan Pro 200 at the top of the list for this filter, a model we carry, delivering 1218 m³/h. That sits above this filter's technical 1100, which means you do not have to run it at its highest setting to reach 1000. A fan doing its work at a lower setting is quieter and lasts longer than one held permanently flat out.

Frequently asked questions

Can I hang it from my tent frame?
Check what your tent's maker states per pole first, and count your lamp in. Eleven kilos spread across two poles is within reach for most sturdy frames; on a single pole often not.

Can the fan hang off the filter?
No. The duct clamp joins air, not weight. Hang both separately.

Why is it heavier than the 800 at the same diameter?
It is 50 cm long against 33 cm, and that length is filled with carbon: 5.1 kg against 3.4 kg.

Which fan suits it?
