Can-Lite 600

The Can-Lite 600 is the first steel filter in the range with a thicker carbon bed. Everything below it carries 2.5 cm of carbon; this one has 3.5 cm wrapped around it. It is 47.5 cm long, 20 cm across, weighs 4 kg, and moves 600 m³/h in practice and 660 technically.

What one extra centimetre of carbon does

The thickness of the carbon bed sets how long a parcel of air stays in the carbon before it emerges on the inside. That is contact time, and it is the real variable in odour filtration. Carbon takes up odour by adsorption: odour molecules bond to the vast internal surface of the carbon. That bonding takes time. Move the air past too quickly and some molecules pass without ever meeting a wall.

Going from 2.5 to 3.5 cm is forty percent more material to cross at the same air speed. That is why this filter handles 600 m³/h while the 425S, in the same 20 cm body, stops at 425. The difference is not better carbon but more carbon in the path of the air.

It is also why you should not pair this filter with the narrowest ducting you can get away with. A thicker bed already adds resistance of its own, so anything you give away at the connection you pay back in fan speed.

Connection and fan

Frequently asked questions

Why does this filter have a thicker bed than the smaller models?
Because the diameter stays the same as the 425S while the airflow has to rise. More air through the same body needs a longer path through the carbon to hold contact time steady.

Will it fit 125 mm ducting?
Only with a reducer, and at 600 m³/h that is a poor idea. The flange is 150 or 160 mm and wants ducting to match.

Does it last longer than the 425S?
It holds 2.2 kg of carbon against 1.9 kg. But it also handles more air, so do not expect proportionally longer. Can works to a minimum of eighteen months across the range.

Can I hang it horizontally?
Yes, in any orientation. Hang it from two points rather than from the duct clamp alone.
