Measure the route before you order

The mistake nearly everyone makes is measuring the distance as the crow flies. Air does not travel that way: your ducting leaves the fan upward, around a beam, along a wall and only then outside.

Walk the route with a tape along the path the ducting will actually take. Then add half a metre for every bend. A bend you can lay out generously costs less pressure than a tight one, and that room has to come out of the length.

Finally add half a metre of slack for the connections themselves. At both ends the ducting slides some way over a flange, and ducting that is just too short is useless: it does not stretch.

For a cabinet with the fan at the top and an outlet nearby, two to three metres is usual. If the outlet is on another floor or in an adjoining room, count on six to eight instead.

Yes, up to ten metres. Order more and it arrives in sections you join with a connector.

Does 102 mm fit a 100 mm connection?
Yes. Ducting sizes came from inches, so 102 mm is the ducting that belongs on a 100 mm duct.

How much spare should I have?
Better half a metre too much than ten centimetres too little. Excess length can be trimmed off.
