When a box beats buying metres

We sell this ducting by the metre too, and for a short piece that is the sensible choice. From about five metres it tips the other way.

The first reason is arithmetic: per metre from a box you pay less than per loose metre, and the gap widens with length.

The second is more practical and costs people money more often. An installation is almost never one straight run. There is a length from filter to fan, a length from fan to outside, often an intake as well, and then at some point you want to move something. Measure exactly and order exactly, and the first change leaves you half a metre short and paying postage again for one metre of ducting.

The third is that a box really does give you one continuous length. Ten metres is the maximum in a single piece, so this is the longest uninterrupted run you can build without a connector, and every connector is another leak point.
