Flexible ventilation ducting of 127 mm, ordered by the metre. This is the ducting that belongs on a 125 mm connection, the most used size in small and mid-sized set-ups.
Three layers, each doing something different
From outside this looks like a simple ribbed hose, but it is three parts you can understand separately.
Inside sits a laminate of aluminium and polyester in overlapping layers. The aluminium makes the wall airtight and heat resistant; the polyester keeps the laminate from tearing where it folds. This inner layer is what your air touches, and it is smooth enough to offer little resistance.
Around it runs a steel helix, fully encapsulated in the material. That helix is why the ducting holds its round shape as you bend it, and why it does not collapse when the fan pulls a vacuum. Without one, ducting under extraction would suck itself shut.
Outermost is a wear-resistant plastic jacket. It protects the laminate from chafing along a wall or a frame, and keeps vapour out.
That build also explains why you must not kink it sharply: at a kink the laminate folds double and loses its smoothness there for good.

Frequently asked questions
Why 127 and not 125 mm?
Ducting sizes come from inches: 127 mm is five inches. It fits the 125 mm duct size.
Can it collapse under extraction?
No, that is what the steel helix is for. It can still kink shut if you bend it too tightly.
May it be squeezed oval?
At the connection yes, it fits round and oval spigots. Along its length no, because oval means less flow.
