Flexible ventilation ducting of 160 mm, cut by the metre. The size that belongs on six inch connections and the most used diameter for mid-range filters and fans.

Cutting it to length, and doing it tidily

We cut by the metre, but in practice you will still trim some off at home. That is fine, as long as you know what you are cutting through.

A steel helix runs through the wall. Cut it with side cutters or a hacksaw blade, not with scissors. The laminate itself you then cut around with a knife.

After cutting, a short length of helix wire sticks out of the end, and it is sharp. Bend the end inward with pliers, or tape the rim with aluminium tape. Do that before sliding the ducting over a flange, or the wire will open up the laminate on the inside as you fit it.

Always cut between two turns of the helix rather than across one: that leaves a closed turn on both sides and the end does not fray.

One piece is ten metres at most. If you need more, join two lengths with a connector and two clamps.
