At this size it is about where it stands

A 50 cm fan moves enough air to make itself felt by whatever it stands on. Three things are worth thinking about before you set it down.

• The surface. The anti-slip feet hold it in place on a normal floor. On a smooth, sealed or wet floor a fan this size can still walk slowly on its highest setting. Stand it against a wall or a fixed object in that case.
• Vibration. On a wooden floor or a raised platform the floor carries the motor noise and it becomes more audible than it is. A rubber mat under it does more than dropping a speed setting.
• A clear run. This blade pushes a wide column of air forward. Put something right in front of it and that column breaks up before it is up to speed. Give it the longest clear line the room allows.

When you need this size

When the far side is a long way off. For a small tent this is too much fan, and a smaller one from the same range is the better choice. For a room you want to keep entirely moving from a single point, this is the model that goes in, and it can then stay on a lower setting as well.

Frequently asked questions

Will it stay put on a smooth floor?
Usually, thanks to the anti-slip feet. On the highest setting on a smooth or wet floor it is better stood against something.

Why do I hear it more on a wooden floor?
Because the floor carries the motor noise. A rubber mat underneath helps more than dropping a speed setting.

Is 50 cm too big for a tent?
For a small tent, yes. Look at the 30 or 40 cm in the same range instead.

Does it have to run on the highest setting?
No. A large blade already moves plenty of air on a low setting, and that is calmer and cheaper.
