Three speeds, and why the lowest is usually the right one

A circulation fan is not something you switch on when it gets too warm. It should run for as long as your lamps are on, and often outside that too. That changes how you look at those three settings.

In continuous use it is not the peak that counts but the average. A fan sitting on its highest setting day and night makes noise without pause, draws its full power, and puts more vibration into the floor than one turning over quietly. And it delivers air movement most rooms do not need: you want to mix the air, not set the plants flapping.

So the practical approach is the reverse of what you would expect. Set it to the lowest speed that still does the work, and choose the model a size up rather than a size down. A 50 cm cage on setting one moves more air than a smaller one on setting three, and does it more calmly.
