A housing that moisture does nothing to

Extracted air from a grow room is warm and humid, and an extraction box sits right in that stream. At this capacity fifteen hundred cubic metres of it pass through every hour, and what the material takes up from that adds up.

EPP is made of closed cells. There is no open structure for water to wick into, so the material absorbs no moisture, does not swell and does not rot. There is nothing in it for mould to live on either.

That is the practical case for this range in a damp environment. The classic extraction box is MDF or birch ply, and those are wood products: wood in permanently humid air eventually draws water, and the cut edges of MDF are the most vulnerable part. Steel does not rust while the galvanising is intact, but where condensation stands it is a matter of time.

Second, it makes cleaning simple. The housing can be wiped down wet without risking anything, which is not a given with a wooden box.

Note that this concerns the housing and not the motor inside it. Electrically it is still an ordinary fan, so hosing it down is a poor idea.

Can it stand outdoors?
The housing handles damp; the motor and wiring do not handle weather. Outdoors it needs a sheltered position.

How do I clean it?
Wiping the housing damp is fine. Keep water away from the motor and the connection.

Is 1500 m³/h a lot?
At twenty five air changes it serves a space of around 60 m³, so a genuine grow room.
