An extraction box of 550 m³/h with an EPP housing and dimpled foam lining, connected through 160 mm flanges.
The three lines do not offer the same sizes
Put these boxes side by side and something appears that easily confuses: the capacities do not line up. The foam range runs 250, 550, 750, 1200 and 1500. The steel boxes and the softboxes run 250, 500, 1000 and 1500.
So this 550 has no exact counterpart in steel. The choices either side of it are 500 or 1000, and that is a wide gap.
Which makes the foam range's in-between sizes more useful in practice than they look on paper. A room needing 520 m³/h is slightly underserved by a 500 box and heavily oversized by a 1000. Oversizing is not free: a fan that is too powerful and then turned well down loses its efficiency, and at the lowest settings some motors hum more rather than less.
So work out your room first and choose the range afterwards, rather than the other way round. Volume times air changes per hour gives the flow you need, and then you take the size sitting just above it.
At 550 m³/h and twenty five changes, that is around 22 m³ of space.

Frequently asked questions
Why 550 and not 500?
That is how this range is laid out. It is not a different way of measuring, it is a different fan.
Can I turn a 1000 box down to 550?
You can, but you pay for capacity you do not use, and a heavily throttled motor does not always run quieter.
Will it fit my 150 mm filter?
With a reducer or a clamp. The flange is 160 mm, the usual size at this flow.
