The flange size does not have to be the standard one

This is the least known property of the range and the most useful: the inlet and outlet can be built to order in a different diameter. You do not have to take what is fitted as standard.

That is worth more than it sounds, because the alternative is always a reducer, and a reducer costs you twice. Once in resistance, since you pinch the duct exactly where the air is getting going. And once in noise, since a restriction directly behind a fan is precisely where air hiss is generated.

If your installation is on 160 mm while this box comes with 200, a version with 160 mm flanges is better for airflow than the same box with a reducer behind it. And the other way round: with a generous 250 mm duct already in place, you can keep it rather than throttling the box.

Inlet and outlet need not be the same size either, which helps when going from a filter connection to an existing exhaust duct.

No, the fan is unchanged. A reducer would, and that is exactly what this avoids.
