Three ways to join the two

Fan and filter share a flange size, which means you can couple them directly with no reducer. There are three usual methods and they differ in more than convenience.

A length of ducting between them is the simplest. A clamp each end and done. The drawback is that flexible ducting is ribbed inside and so adds resistance, so keep the piece short.

A coupling sleeve joins the two flanges tightly. That is cleanest for airflow, since almost no extra length sits between them, and the whole becomes one rigid block you hang in one go.

A rubber sleeve does the same while interrupting vibration transfer between fan and filter. That is the quietest option, because the filter body then does not ring along as a soundboard.

Which you choose depends on what matters more. For least resistance and a compact assembly, take the coupling sleeve. If your set-up is in a home where noise counts, take rubber.

In every case, make sure the filter is on the suction side and that you support the weight of both parts separately.
