Twelve kilos that have to hang from something

At this size hanging it becomes the hardest step of the installation, and it is the step most often underestimated.

The set weighs some twelve kilos together, most of it the filter: nearly seventy centimetres long and twenty four across. In most set-ups that hangs high up, and up there is usually nothing designed to carry it.

Three points help. Support both parts separately rather than letting the filter dangle from the fan; the coupling between them is there to guide air, not to carry weight. Use two hanging points for the filter, since seventy centimetres from a single point will tilt. And check what you are hanging from: a tent frame is rated for lamps, not automatically for twelve kilos on top.

Hanging from a ceiling, go into a joist or use fixings rated for this load. A filter that comes loose takes the ducting with it and opens your whole exhaust.

One last practical point: hang it so you can still reach it. The filter comes off eventually, and you do not want to dismantle half the tent first.
