A silencer built from a metal tube in a rockwool shell, 39 by 18 cm and 1 kg. It slides straight onto the outlet of the 125 mm GT inline fans and brings noise down below 45 dB.

Adding one to a fan you already own

This is the separate part from the pre-assembled sets, meant to be added to a set-up already in place. Two things decide whether that works for you.

The first is the connection. The silencer is made to slide over the outlet of the GT 125 fans, so there it fits without question. On another 125 mm fan it depends how the flange is formed; measure before ordering.

The second is space. Thirty nine centimetres added behind your fan is substantial in a cabinet, and it has to lie straight. A silencer with a kink in it loses its effect and generates flow noise of its own.

Mounting at the far end is kept simple. An air grille is supplied with which you clamp the end into a 121 mm hole, so you can push the silencer straight through a cabinet or tent wall and finish it off there. To carry on further, ducting fits over it just as well.

What a silencer does not solve is vibration travelling through structure. If your set-up hums into the floor, you need a rubber decoupling rather than a silencer.

Will it fit another brand of fan?
It is made for the GT 125 models. On another brand, measure the flange first.

Does it help with humming in the floor?
No. That needs a vibration break, such as a rubber sleeve.

It should lie straight. A kink costs you both damping and airflow.
