What a direct drive motor is

On this fan the blade sits straight on the motor shaft. That sounds obvious, but it is a choice, and it explains how such a small fan manages on five watts.

The alternative is a drive with something in between: a belt, a gear or a coupling between motor and blade. Every intermediate part costs energy to friction, makes noise, and is the first thing to wear. Leave it out and everything the motor produces goes straight into the air.

The motor itself is magnetically driven and brushless. In an ordinary DC motor carbon brushes run against a rotating commutator to switch the coils; those brushes rub, heat up and wear away. Brushless does that switching electronically, so there is no sliding contact to wear out.

Together that means few moving parts touching each other. For a fan running for months on end, that matters more than the noise figure on paper: there is simply less that can fail.

In practice: do not aim it straight at one plant but along the crop, and place it so the air circles the room rather than blowing into a wall.
