Vertically on a pole, and no other way

For this model the manufacturer gives a mounting instruction you rarely see on a fan: clamp it vertically to a tent pole and do not use it in another position. That is not hedging but a consequence of how the motor is supported.

A fan's shaft rests in bearings, and those bearings are designed for a particular direction of load. On a vertically clamped clip fan the shaft is horizontal and the bearing carries the blade's weight around its full circumference, which is what it is built for.

Lay it flat or hang it upside down and that load shifts onto the end face of the bearing. There is less bearing surface there, lubrication spreads unevenly, and a bearing running for months wears faster. It does not fail at once; it starts to rattle, and you notice once the noise has already grown.

In practice this is no restriction. A clip fan belongs on a pole anyway, and the head tilts so you can still aim the stream up or down without tilting the fan itself.

At 305 m³/h against 215 for the 15 cm, this is around forty percent more, which suits a medium to large tent.
