Why this brand sells two kinds of inline fan

Garden Highpro has two ranges that look alike from outside: the Proline and this TT. They are not the cheap and expensive versions of each other, they are a different type of fan, and that decides what you can use them for.

The Proline is axial. An axial fan pushes air straight along its axis, like a propeller, and that works excellently as long as there is little opposing it. Put something in the way that offers resistance and its output falls away quickly.

The TT is mixed-flow. The impeller has a domed hub with profiled blades, so the air is driven not only backwards but slightly outwards as well. That is an intermediate form between axial and centrifugal, and it produces more pressure than an axial fan of the same size.

That difference is exactly what a carbon filter demands. A filter is a bed of carbon the air has to be forced through, and forcing costs pressure. So an axial fan rated 305 m³/h and a mixed-flow rated 405 are not two points on one scale: with a filter in front, the first keeps far less than the gap in the numbers suggests.

Rule of thumb: with a filter, or a long duct with bends, take the TT. If you are only moving air from A to B, a Proline is cheaper and sufficient.
