A 125 mm axial inline fan, 190 m³/h on 20 watts. Connects straight to 125 mm ducting and flanges.
Where in the run to put it
An inline fan goes between two lengths of ducting, and exactly where turns out to matter. An axial fan is more sensitive to this than a heavy one, because it has less in reserve.
What counts is what the air does just before the impeller. If it comes out of a bend it is already swirling, and it arrives on the blades skewed and uneven. Part of the blade then gets too much air and part too little, which costs output and produces a whistle or a thumping you blame on the fan when it belongs to the bend.
So keep a straight length of ducting on the intake side of about three times the diameter, here around forty centimetres. On the outlet side it is less critical, but even there you do not want the first bend hard against the flange.
Two more things. Pull flexible ducting as taut as you can: the ribs inside already add resistance, and ducting hanging in folds adds far more. And keep the number of bends down, since every bend costs capacity you cannot spare at twenty watts.
This fan is not intended for use with a carbon filter; a mixed-flow version is the right choice for that.

Frequently asked questions
How much straight run do I need?
About three times the diameter ahead of the fan, so roughly 40 cm.
Why does my fan whistle?
Often a bend just before the impeller, or ducting hanging in folds.
Can it hang in any position?
Yes, but do not leave it dangling from the ducting alone.
