This is a professional product, and its instructions differ in two ways from what you are used to with a household freshener.

One short burst is the whole dose. Not a few passes around the room, but one brief press with the nozzle pointing upward and away from your body. The can is built to deliver a substantial cloud in one go, which then distributes itself. Press it three or four times and you do not get better distribution, you get a room that smells too heavy, and that cannot be undone except by airing.

Then step away for a moment. The manufacturer advises leaving the room briefly unoccupied so the mist can settle and the fragrance mature. Stand there and you are judging the cloud in front of your face rather than the result, and breathing in spray unnecessarily.

Two things to avoid. Do not spray onto polished surfaces; if some lands there, wipe it off with a damp cloth. And if you want to hold the scent longer by spraying fabric, try an inconspicuous spot first, since colour fastness varies between materials.

Lavender is the calmest of the three scents we carry, where citrus is fresher and cranberry more pronouncedly fruity.
