Wider instead of longer, and when that is the only option

A carbon filter needs a certain quantity of carbon to reach its capacity. You can house that quantity two ways: in a narrow tall cylinder or a wide short one. The flat is the second shape.

In practice that is often the difference between fitting and not. A filter nearly always hangs high up, and high up is exactly where height runs out. The standard 360 is 400 mm long, and then the flange, the ducting and the bend to the fan come on top. In a 1.8 m tent with a lamp in it that room is not always there.

This version is 250 mm long and so wins some fifteen centimetres precisely where you need them. You pay in width: 230 mm across against 150 mm on the narrow model, so in a tight tent it may meet a wall or a lamp sooner.

Aerodynamically the two are equivalent. Same carbon, same optimum of 360 m³/h and same maximum of 480. You choose purely on the shape that fits your space.
