Hanging it upright or lying down

This filter is expressly suitable for horizontal mounting too, which is not a given on a carbon filter.

The problem with lying mounting is the carbon itself. It sits as loose material between two walls, and gravity pulls it downward. With the filter on its side the pack can settle over time, opening a passage along the top where air shoots through unfiltered. That is the same channelling you avoid when filling, only after the fact.

The Industry Line resists it better because the carbon is packed denser: a tight pack has less room to settle. Which is why these filters in particular are declared suitable for horizontal mounting, and why the hanging hooks are fitted at the factory.

Two practical points still apply. Do not periodically rotate a horizontal filter to spare it, since every change is a fresh chance for the pack to reseat. And support a filter of this length at two points rather than one, so it does not sag.
