A softbox of 1000 m³/h in an MDF case with the blower suspended in rubber. Power draw 73 watts, 250 mm connections in and out.
Between 500 and 1000 the connection skips a size
This range runs in four steps, but the connection does not step evenly. The 250 is on 125 mm, the 500 on 160 mm, and this model jumps to 250 mm. The 200 mm size is skipped.
That is a jump you feel across the rest of your installation, because the bore is not slightly larger but nearly twice as generous: a 250 mm pipe has well over twice the area of a 160.
The reason is air speed. Forcing a thousand cubic metres an hour through a 160 mm duct means the air has to move at a rate that produces both resistance and hiss, and you then lose in the pipe what the fan has just built up. At 250 mm the same quantity moves calmly.
So in practice the step from 500 to 1000 means new ducting along the whole route, a larger port in the wall, and a filter with a 250 mm flange. Coming from a 160 mm set-up, expect more than a new box.
If your need falls between the two, that is a reason to look carefully. Reducing from 250 to 200 mm is possible, but you then build a restriction exactly where the air has just got going.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a 200 mm version?
Not in this range. After 160 mm comes 250 mm.
Can I reduce to 200 mm?
You can, but a restriction just behind the box costs capacity and adds hiss.
What else do I have to replace?
Ducting, wall port and filter all have to be on 250 mm.
