Vents - TT 100 RV Mixed-Flow Inline Fan Ø100 mm

The TT 100 RV is Vents' entry size in mixed-flow. There is one property of this model you should know before buying, because it shapes how you install it.

The thermal cut-out cannot be reset

Like nearly every duct fan, this one has thermal protection: if the motor overheats it shuts down before damage occurs. On most fans the unit cools and simply starts again afterwards.

Vents states explicitly in the manual for the TT 100 and TT 125 that this is not how it works here. The thermal switch on these two models cannot be reset: if it trips, the fan is finished and has to be replaced.

That sounds harsh, and it is a reason to take the causes of overheating seriously rather than trusting that you will get a warning. Overheating comes from one of three things almost every time.

Too much resistance. A clogged carbon filter, a kinked duct or a blocked outlet leaves the motor working with no air passing through, and it is that airflow which cools the motor. Check your pre-filter regularly and do not pinch the ducting anywhere.

Air that is too hot. The fan is rated for continuous duty up to 60 °C. Extracting air that sits structurally above that asks too much of this model.

Sized too small. A fan that has to run flat out day and night to keep up sits permanently at the top of its capability. A size larger at a lower speed runs cooler, quieter and lasts longer.

Build and maintenance

The casing is ABS plastic, which separates the standard TT series from the TT Pro in low-flammable polypropylene. The motor runs on ball bearings and the fan is IPX4, suitable for damp spaces.

The motor and impeller block lifts out of the casing on clamps, so you clean the impeller without disconnecting ducting. Do it at every changeover: dust on the impeller costs airflow and causes imbalance, and imbalance means extra load on precisely the motor you do not want to overheat.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if the protection trips?
On the TT 100 and TT 125 the thermal switch cannot be reset. The fan has to be replaced, so prevention is the whole story here.

How do I avoid overheating?
Keep resistance low: clean pre-filter, no kinked ducting, no blocked outlet. And size generously enough that it does not have to run flat out continuously.

What does RV mean in the name?
That this version has the speed switch on board. You select low or high without a separate controller.

What is the difference from the TT Pro 100?
The Pro has a polypropylene casing, moves more air (245 against 187 m³/h) and is quieter on high. This one is simpler and cheaper.
