A 200 mm inline fan with a mixed-flow impeller and a two-speed switch, rated 830 or 1040 m³/h at 45 to 52 dB(A) measured at three metres. Draws 76 to 108 watts.

The TT Pro 200 RV is the first size in this range where noise becomes a real consideration. That calls for some explanation of the number, because decibels without a distance mean nothing.

45 to 52 dB(A), but measured how far away

Vents rates this fan at 45 dB(A) on low and 52 on high, measured three metres away. That last part is the most important piece of the specification and it is left off almost everywhere.

Sound falls away with distance: double the distance and the level drops by roughly six dB. Stand at a metre and a half instead of three and you measure about six dB more, and at one metre more again. A manufacturer quoting 52 dB at three metres and one measuring the same unit at one metre publish numbers ten dB apart for exactly the same fan.

So never compare two fans on their decibel figure alone. If no distance is given, you do not know what you are comparing.

What it means in a house: 52 dB(A) at three metres is about a normal conversation in the same room. In a shed or cellar that is fine. Below a bedroom it becomes awkward, and then the 45 dB(A) low speed is your friend, along with a silencer in the run and a fan hung in straps rather than bolted down.

Consumption and size

On low it draws 76 watts, on high 108. That is a real difference on something running continuously: across a ten-week cycle it adds up noticeably, which is another reason to use the low speed where you can.

The fan measures 261 by 239 by 295 mm and weighs four kilos, with a 199 mm collar. It mounts in any orientation, and the motor block lifts out of the casing on clamps for servicing.

Frequently asked questions

Why do you state the measuring distance?
Because a decibel figure without one says nothing. The same fan measures about ten dB more at one metre than at three.

How do I make it quieter?
Low speed, a silencer in the ducting run, and hang the fan in straps rather than bolting it down.

What does it draw on each speed?
76 watts on low and 108 on high.

Does it fit 200 mm ducting?
Yes. The actual collar diameter is 199 mm, which is the standard fit for 200 mm ducting.
