A 100 mm centrifugal duct fan with a quiet motor, rated 205 m³/h. Same casing and bearings as the standard VK 100, with a motor that runs more gently.
The VK 100 Q R is the Q version, and that letter is the whole difference from the plain VK 100. It is a trade, not an upgrade.
What the Q motor gives up and what it buys
At Vents the Q denotes a quiet motor. It runs more gently, and lower airflow inevitably comes with that: 205 m³/h against 250 for the standard version in the same size, so better than a fifth less air.
That is a fair trade as long as you do not need the 250. Ventilation noise comes largely from air velocity, and a motor that does not have to work as hard for the air you actually move is quieter twice over: the motor itself and the air in the duct.
So the sum is not which fan can do more, but how much you need. An 80 x 80 x 180 cm tent is just over 1 m³ and asks for around 70 m³/h for one air change per minute. Even with a carbon filter and some ducting, 205 m³/h stays well above that.
When not to take the Q: if your setup carries a lot of resistance, or if you already know that filter and ducting will push you to the limit. A quiet motor working permanently at its maximum is no longer quiet, and you would have done better running the standard version at a lower speed.
Otherwise identical to the standard
Everything outside the motor is the same: centrifugal impeller with backward-curved blades, dynamically balanced, asynchronous external rotor motor with self-resetting overheat protection, ball bearings for at least 40,000 hours, corrosion-resistant plastic casing and IPX4.
It mounts horizontally or vertically with the supplied brackets, and the arrow on the casing shows the airflow direction.

Frequently asked questions
Exactly how much quieter is the Q?
Vents publishes no separate decibel figure for it, so we quote none either. What is certain is the trade: a gentler motor and 205 instead of 250 m³/h.
Is 205 m³/h enough for my tent?
Take your volume in cubic metres times sixty. For tents up to roughly 100 x 100 cm you stay well under it, filter included.
Can I turn it down with a speed controller?
Yes. For running quieter still, that is often more effective than the choice between Q and standard.
Does it fit the same ducting as the standard VK 100?
Yes, both are 100 mm, and the casing is the same.
