A 150 mm centrifugal duct fan with a built-in thermostat and speed module, rated 460 m³/h. Fits a 150 or a 160 mm duct.
The VK 150 U regulates itself on the temperature of the air passing through it. That only works well if the fan hangs in the right place in your run, and there is something useful to say about that.
Where you hang the fan decides what it measures
The module's sensor sits in the fan and therefore reads the air passing through at that moment. In ordinary extraction that is the air from your space, which is exactly what you want to control.
Hang the fan after the carbon filter, which is the usual order, and the temperature barely changes: a filter does not cool. The reading stays representative.
Where it goes wrong is with a long inlet run before the fan. If ten metres of ducting pass through a cold space before the air reaches the fan, that air has cooled on the way and the module reads lower than what is happening in your grow space. The control then steps up too late.
The same applies if you use it as an intake fan: it then measures, by definition, the air you are bringing in rather than the space you want to control.
The rule of thumb: put the U version as close as possible to the space it regulates, and use it for extraction. If the fan has to hang somewhere remote, a separate climate controller with a probe you position yourself is the better answer, with a standard R version on it.
Build
The front panel carries a speed dial, a thermostat dial and two indicators. The fan beneath is the standard VK 150: centrifugal impeller, external rotor motor with self-recovering thermal cut-out, bearings for at least 40,000 running hours and a plastic housing that does not corrode.
Technical Specifications:
- Power draw: 80 W
- Current: 0.35 A
- Duct size: 150 mm, also fits 160 mm
- Airflow: 460 m³/h
- Control: built-in module, thermostat plus speed control
- Sensor reads: the air in the duct, inside the fan
- Impeller: centrifugal, backward-curved blades
- Cut-out: thermal, recovers by itself
- Bearings: at least 40,000 running hours
- Material: corrosion-resistant plastic, IPX4, class II
Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place for it?
As close as possible to the space it regulates, and as extraction. The sensor then reads representative air.
Can the filter sit before it?
Yes, that is the usual order and it barely affects the reading.
Can I use it as an intake fan?
You can, but it then measures incoming air rather than your space. A separate controller with its own probe suits that setup better.
Do I need a separate controller?
No, thermostat and speed control are in the module.
