Which side faces in, and why

The film has two sides with two different jobs, and it is worth knowing which is which before you start fixing it up.

The white side faces inward, toward your crop. White returns light into the room. Light that would otherwise vanish into a wall or a ceiling reaches your plants after all, and that tells most at the edges of your growing area.

The black side faces outward, against the wall. Black passes no light. That works both ways: no outside light enters during your dark period, and none of your lamp's light escapes.

One point is often misunderstood: the black layer stops light, not heat. Black absorbs heat rather than repelling it. The film is a light barrier and a reflector, not insulation. If you want to control heat, you do that with ventilation rather than with film.

What you use it for

On a wall or ceiling the film turns an ordinary room into a usable grow space without putting up a tent. On the floor it catches spilled water and keeps the surface clean. Inside an existing tent you can use it to repair a worn interior or to screen off part of the space.

Fifty square metres covers a small room with some to spare. Measure your space and include the ceiling area, which is often forgotten and is in fact the most useful surface for returning light.

Fix the film flat and without creases. A crease traps light instead of reflecting it, and holds moisture and dust in places you cannot reach.
