Four sockets, of which two are programmable

A G-Tools WIFI Smartbox sits in the top compartment. It is why this cabinet largely runs itself, and it is also why you should know in advance what it does and does not automate.

The Smartbox has four sockets, two of them programmable through the app. Those two are intended for the LED lighting and for the irrigation pump. You set how many hours of light your crop gets and when water goes on, and from then on it runs without you.

The other two sockets do not switch. They carry whatever must run continuously, which here is the fan with its filter and the circulation pump in the reservoir. That is a sound choice rather than a limitation: you do not want air exchange on a schedule, and a circulation pump that stops lets nutrient settle out in the tank.

What it does mean for your planning: if you want to add something that needs to run on a schedule, a heating mat or a second lighting circuit for instance, both programmable outputs are already taken. Account for that before you count on it.

What remains manual is this: sowing, harvesting, and topping up the reservoir. Nothing else.

Three levels of 0.25 m²

The cabinet has three levels, each with a 52 × 52 cm drip tray, 0.75 m² together. Above each level hang two 10 W Sanlight Flex II LED bars, six in total, with a spectrum suited to microgreens, sprouting vegetables and rooting cuttings.

What fits, given two ways so you can compare: 468 Eazy Plugs, or 432 rockwool blocks of 4 × 4 cm, or 189 growing pots of 69 × 52 mm. Spread over three levels that is roughly 156 plugs per shelf.

The cabinet is built from aluminium profiles with plastic corner pieces and pvc/xps sandwich panels, so a closed cabinet rather than fabric on a frame.

Water and nutrient

The irrigation system works from a 16 litre reservoir. A feed pump lifts water to the levels and a second pump keeps the tank moving. That circulation matters: as soon as you add nutrient to the water it settles to the bottom of the tank without movement, and then you are watering rather than feeding.

Frequently asked questions

Can I control everything from the app?
Light and watering, yes. The fan and the circulation pump run on the two non-switching sockets, because they are meant to run continuously.

How often do I have to top it up?
That depends on your crop and how many watering events you set. The tank holds 16 litres, and refilling is the only manual work besides sowing and harvesting.

How does it differ from the Nursery 1M2?
