Height is the limiting dimension here, not the floor

With an ordinary grow tent you look at floor area. A propagator works differently: the 80 × 60 cm floor takes exactly two standard 60 × 40 cm trays, and that is immediately clear. The figure to watch is the 40 cm of height.

Add that height up. A plug tray with a base is already 6 to 8 cm. Put a propagator lid on top and that adds 15 to 25 cm, depending on whether it is a low or a tall dome. What remains is the room your cuttings have to grow, plus the room you need to get a hand in.

With a low dome you have enough left. With a tall dome it gets tight, and then the question is whether you need the dome at all: inside a closed propagation tent this size humidity stays high on its own, because the cuttings transpire and the moisture cannot escape. That is exactly what this tent is for.

If you want light above the trays, that comes off the 40 cm too. A slim bar fixture of a few centimetres fits; a panel with a heatsink usually does not. Work it out beforehand, because this is the dimension you cannot extend afterwards.

Why a tent rather than just a dome

A propagator dome holds moisture over one tray. This tent does it over two at once, and additionally keeps light out when you want it to. That last part counts during rooting: cuttings need light, but not harsh direct light, and a light-tight space lets you set the photoperiod yourself rather than inheriting the room's.

The canvas is 420D nylon with a reflective mylar interior, so the light you do give is spread across both trays instead of disappearing into the wall.

Frequently asked questions

How many cuttings fit?
Two full trays. How many that is depends on your tray: at 104 cells per tray you reach 208 cuttings, with a coarser grid fewer.

Will a propagator dome fit?
A low one will. At 40 cm of height a tall dome gets tight, and inside a closed propagation tent a dome is often unnecessary anyway.

Can I hang lighting inside?
A slim bar fixture fits. Bear in mind that anything you hang comes off the 40 cm of height.
