What DWC is, and what the R adds

In deep water culture the roots hang directly in the nutrient solution. No substrate, no watering cycles, no dry-back: the roots stand permanently in water. That only works if the water is very heavily oxygenated, because submerged roots without oxygen suffocate within a day.

In an ordinary DWC setup each pot is its own bucket with its own air stone, and therefore its own little world: sixteen buckets means sixteen measurements, sixteen adjustments and sixteen chances for one to drift.

The R for recirculating solves that. All pots are interconnected and the water is pumped round: it passes through the pots and the surplus returns to the central reservoir. That makes it one large, continuously mixed solution rather than sixteen separate ones.

Why that matters at sixteen pots

You measure and correct in one place. EC, pH and temperature are the same everywhere in the system, because everything is connected. With sixteen individual buckets that would be sixteen operations.

The large volume also acts as a buffer: a mistake or a swing is diluted across the whole system rather than hitting one plant. That same volume makes temperature control practical, which matters in DWC because warm water holds less oxygen.

What is and is not included

The system covers the pots, the pipework and the fittings in 6, 16, 19 and 50 mm. An air pump and a water tank are not included; Alien Hydroponics supply those separately.
