The 1Pot system for two pots gives each plant its own tray with its own AQUAvalve5. That sounds like a detail and it is the difference between this system and the cheaper Easy2Grow range, where two pots share one valve and one water level.

What independent dosing actually buys

Each valve fills its own tray to 20 millimetres, seals itself with a vacuum lock, and reopens only when that tray is empty. Two pots on the same line therefore run two separate cycles, each at the pace of the plant standing in it.

You see the consequence as soon as your plants are not equal. A large plant in flower transpires a multiple of a young one or a cutting, and empties its tray sooner. Its valve therefore refills more often. The smaller plant beside it meanwhile keeps its own slower rhythm with a full dry-back between fills. On a shared tray the small plant would be dragged along at the large one's pace, and that is exactly what you avoid here.

So you can combine plants of different age, type or size in one setup without shuffling them around. For anyone growing in cycles, with a few plants always further along than the rest, that is the whole argument.

What it costs in components

There is a flip side: one valve per pot means two valves instead of one, and two trays instead of one. That is why 1Pot works out dearer per plant than Easy2Grow. You are not buying more water but more control.

So it is a real trade-off. Two plants of the same type and age standing side by side would do perfectly well on a shared tray. If they differ, or you want the freedom to let them differ, this is the version that copes.

Supplied complete

Two trays with AQUAvalve5, two 15 litre pots with Marix and Root Control Discs, the 47 litre tank with lid, water filter set, fittings and pipe. The tank stands higher than the trays; the system runs entirely on gravity.

Both plants get top-watering for the first seven to ten days, until their roots reach the lower layer. Then connect up, and stop watering from above.

Frequently asked questions

Why dearer than a two-pot Easy2Grow? Because you get two valves and two trays instead of one shared set.

Can I combine different plants? Yes, that is exactly what this version is for.

Do both pots get the same water? No, each gets what its own plant uses.

Can I extend it? Yes, one pot at a time with a 1Pot expansion set.
