Why a collapsible tank suits here

Eight XL plants call for a substantial reservoir, and a rigid tank of that capacity is an awkward object: it occupies space permanently, empty included, and it has to stand somewhere higher than your trays.

A FlexiTank is a frame with a flexible liner. You choose the capacity your calculation asks for rather than the size that happens to be in stock, and out of season you fold it flat. For anyone growing in cycles and using the space differently in between, that frees a corner of the room.

The trade-off: a flexible tank wants a flat, load-bearing surface. Full it weighs hundreds of kilos, and that weight distributes differently than a rigid drum's.

What you arrange with any reservoir

Whichever tank you pick, the same three things apply. The water level must stand above the trays, because the system runs on gravity with no pump. A filter belongs between tank and line, because the valve inlets are narrow. And you top up at roughly a third, because running fully empty admits air and the valves then lose their vacuum seal.

Eight valves on one main

The 16 millimetre main with 9 millimetre branches exists because eight valves can call for water at once. A narrower line would fill the furthest trays noticeably slower.
