The FlexiPot system for nine pots is nine 1Pot XL trays with AQUAvalve5 and nine 18.9 litre fabric pots. Nine pots fit a three-by-three square, and in that layout one property of fabric comes into its own: you can move it.

Growing plants need more room than they occupy at the start

At the beginning of a crop nine young plants sit comfortably close together. By the end they touch, shade one another, and light is lost to overlapping leaves. The answer is to space them further apart as they grow, and that is exactly what most layouts do not permit.

Here it does. Every plant stands on its own separate tray with its own valve, connected by a flexible branch to the main line. Trays and pots can therefore be repositioned without altering the installation: slide the tray across and the branch follows.

Fabric pots help, being lighter than rigid pots of comparable volume and yielding when handled. Do lift by the tray or support the base, though, since a wet fabric pot has no rigid wall to lift by.

What to watch when moving them

Two things. After moving, the trays must sit at the same level as the rest, or that one fills last and runs dry first. And the branch must not end up taut or kinked; a kinked 9 millimetre line passes noticeably less at the low pressure this system runs on.
