AutoPot - 1Pot XL extension

The 1Pot XL expansion set adds one XL pot to an existing AutoPot system: an XL tray with AQUAvalve5, a 25 litre pot, root disc and the connecting hardware.

XL trays are not standard 1Pot trays

This is the thing to check before ordering. The XL tray is larger than the standard 1Pot tray, because it has to take a 25 litre pot rather than a 15. An XL pot therefore will not fit a standard tray, and conversely a standard pot sits loose in an XL tray.

For your installation that makes no difference: the pipework is identical. The set comes with a 9 millimetre and a 16-9 millimetre fitting, exactly as the standard expansion does, so it hangs off the same main line. You can happily mix XL and standard trays on one installation; only the pot-and-tray pairing has to match.

Connecting to a running system

Shut off the supply before fitting the tee into the main. If the line drains while you work, air reaches the other valves, and air is precisely what upsets their vacuum seal.

Then check your reservoir can carry the extra pot. An XL pot holds a larger plant, so your consumption rises more than adding a standard pot would. The refill rule stands: top up at about a third.
