The Auto5 tray system puts five 35 litre pots in one tray with one AQUAvalve5. Those 35 litres are the largest pot size in the entire AutoPot range, which makes this a different kind of choice from the other tray systems.
What you need 35 litres for
Most AutoPot systems run 8.5, 15, 18.9 or 25 litres. Thirty-five is a substantial step above that, intended for crops that grow through a whole season and build a root system that meets the wall in smaller pots: large fruiting plants, perennials, or anything where you aim at final size rather than plant count.
A larger pot also means a larger buffer. More moist substrate stands between fill cycles, so moisture swings more slowly and the plant has more slack in warm weather. The flip side is that a change to your feed takes longer to work through.
Five large pots on one valve
The tray is fed by a single AQUAvalve5, so the five pots share their water level and cycle. At this pot size that is a real consideration: 35 litres carries a large plant, and large plants differ most in what they drink. So put plants of similar size and type in, or the strongest grower decides when the whole tray empties.
What five times 35 litres asks in substrate
One hundred and seventy-five litres of medium, plus a drainage layer of 2.5 to 5 centimetres in the base of each pot. Build that into your planning; it is a separate delivery and a separate job, and it sits outside the price of the system.
Consider the weight too. Five wet 35 litre pots on one tray is a considerable load in one place, particularly on a bench or rack.

Frequently asked questions
Why 35 litres? For plants that meet the pot wall in smaller sizes.
Can the plants differ? Better not; five pots share one water level.
How much substrate do I need? Around 175 litres, plus drainage material.
Does this respond slower to feed changes? Yes, more substrate means more old moisture to be used first.
