The Auto8 tray system with 8.5 litre pots puts eight plants in one tray with one AQUAvalve5. It is the densest arrangement among the tray systems, which suits a different kind of growing from the large-pot builds.

Eight small pots rather than three large

At 8.5 litres you are deliberately choosing number over size. That suits crops where plants need not get large and where you turn over more often: herbs, salads and leafy crops, young plants you move on, or short cycles where you start again quickly.

Smaller pots dry back sooner than large ones, so the tray runs a fill cycle more often. That also makes the system more responsive: adjust something in the tank and you see it in the plant sooner than at 25 or 35 litres, where more old substrate moisture stands in between.

Eight plants that must run dry together

One valve fills the whole tray and waits until all of it is gone. With eight pots the chance of one falling out of step is greater than with three, simply because there are more of them. So work with plants of the same type and age, which short crops usually give you anyway: you fill a whole tray at once and harvest it at once.

Swapping is easy though. No valve or line is attached to a pot, so you lift one out and put another in without touching the installation.
