Closer together means fewer lamps

On individual trays plants stand apart because each tray has its own rim and space around it. Here nine pots sit in one grid, as close as the pots themselves allow. The lit area you need to cover those nine plants is therefore smaller.

That carries through to your electricity bill and your heat load: fewer fixtures for the same number of plants means less power drawn and less heat to remove. Racking becomes a real option

The second consequence is less obvious. One tray with one valve needs a fraction of the maintenance of nine separate trays with nine valves and nine branches. That is precisely what makes vertical stacking feasible: on a rack or rolling bench, reaching things is the constraint, and a system that asks little attention can go on a level you do not stand at daily.

The tray also moves well. On rolling or Danish trolleys you shift a complete crop in one go rather than nine pots individually.

What to watch with fabric in a tray

FlexiPots evaporate through their side walls too, so this tray cycles more often than the same tray with rigid pots, and indoors your humidity rises noticeably with nine fabric pots together. Size your extraction for it. Each pot gets a PotSock as root barrier, which counts for more with one shared valve.
