Three plants, each in a 20 litre fabric FlexiPot on its own 1Pot XL tray with its own AQUAvalve5, with a 47 litre water tank included.

Cleaning between two runs

A fabric pot is not something you throw away after one crop, but you can certainly ruin one by cleaning it wrongly. AutoPot gives an order of steps worth following.

Empty the pot and let it dry for a few days. Then brush off the dust and the fine roots. Dry, that is a minute per pot; wet, everything sticks together and you tear the fabric. If you want to go further, the pot can go in the washing machine or in a tub with a peroxide solution.

What it must not go in is a tumble dryer. The heat distorts the fabric, and then the pot no longer sits squarely in the tray, which is precisely the property separating a FlexiPot from an ordinary fabric bag.

The trays go through the same round

The fabric is not the only thing that gets dirty. A tray that keeps filling and being drunk dry builds up a film, and that eventually reaches the valve.

So take the trays along at the end of a crop: lid off, rinse the tray, check the valve. Three trays each with their own valve means three repetitions of the same small routine rather than one large job, and you start the next run knowing the valves are clean.

Frequently asked questions

How often do I clean the pots? At the end of a crop, before you store them.

Can a FlexiPot go in the washing machine? Yes, or in a tub with peroxide. It must not go in a dryer.

Why let it dry first? Dry, the dust and roots release; wet, you tear the fabric.

Do the trays need cleaning too? Yes, whatever settles in the tray otherwise reaches the valve.
